Bodycam Shows Police Shoot Man Who Pointed a Cane at Officers, Mistaken For a Gun

The Harford County Sheriff's Department in Maryland released bodycam footage showing officers shooting a man who allegedly pointed a long object at them, which was later determined to be a cane, on April 23, 2022 in Forest Hill. Officers responded to a call about an allegedly armed suicidal man in a shopping center parking lot. When officers confronted the man, he attempted to flee so they shot out his tires. After a long standoff, the man allegedly pointed the long object at the officers, prompting them to shoot. One officer can be heard shouting, "it's a cane, it's a cane," before officers opened fire.
